TreeArt: The Art School Behind 35,000 Young Artists

A decade of first brushstrokes

TreeArt opened its first studio in 2015 with a conviction that sounds simple and is not: art class should be education, not childcare with paint. A decade later the brand runs a network of campuses across Singapore — from Orchard to the heartlands — plus a Kuala Lumpur campus, and has taught more than 35,000 students. Its philosophy has stayed the same size while the school grew: art builds freedom and self-awareness first, technique second, and the goal is an independent thinker who happens to draw well — not the other way around.

One curriculum, fourteen years long

Most art enrichment is a carousel of themed workshops. TreeArt is built as a single ladder instead. The Creative track (from age 3) uses drawing, colour and mixed media to turn mark-making into visual confidence. The Professional track (from around 8) introduces sketching, composition and personal style — the point where a child stops copying and starts deciding. The Portfolio track carries teenagers through exam preparation, DSA applications and the long, deliberate work of building a body of work an admissions panel will take seriously.

The ladder matters because art skill compounds quietly. A child who learns observation at five draws form at eight; a child who owns her style at twelve has something real to say in a portfolio at fifteen. Single workshops cannot compound. A fourteen-year curriculum can.

Where TreeArt sits in the OpenKids journey

Inside the OpenKids ecosystem, TreeArt is the front door. The Creative Arts programme it powers is where most children enter the 3-to-24 pathway — at three, with paint on their hands, years before anyone says the word 'portfolio'. From there the ecosystem branches: some students carry their visual thinking into STEAM and design work, and the strongest portfolios flow onward into global admissions preparation. The child's creative record travels with them the whole way.

Why starting at three is the whole point

Here is the opinion we hold and teach by: creative confidence is easiest to build before self-consciousness arrives, and nearly impossible to retrofit after. A three-year-old will paint anything; a thirteen-year-old will not pick up a pencil in public unless someone protected that fearlessness for a decade. That protection is what a real arts curriculum does. The technique can always be taught later — the willingness to make something and show it cannot. TreeArt exists to keep that willingness alive long enough for skill to catch up with it.
